Market Shut Down For Putting Googly Eyes On Fish To Make It Look ‘Fresher’ – Video

A fish market in Kuwait reportedly put fake eyes on a fish to make it look “fresher.” Pictures of the bizarre-looking fish were first spotted on WhatsApp. BBC News reports images have been shared by local bloggers and newspaper Al Bayan. One image shows the fake eye slipping off to reveal the less-than-appetizing truth.

Al-Bayan reported that Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce shut down the store after the images went viral and the shop was identified. One Twitter user quipped: “Never judge the freshness of fish by the googliness of their eyes.”

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that a rival fish market responded to the controversy by announcing that they only sold fish “without cosmetic sur-gery,” featuring an image of a fish and a selection of colored contact lenses. In July, another fish shop in Kuwait was liable of putting nails in fish to increase their weight.

Comments:

Jalbin The diver from the SpongeBob Movie probably works at that shop.

Eddie The intersection of people who know enough about fish to look at their eyes to judge freshness and people who would be tricked by googly eyes can’t possibly be very large?

Allison Britt I would think that that Venn diagram would be two separate circles.

Cynthia Evans As entrepreneurial as this is, how long did the store owner it would go on?

Francisco Rodríguez There’s something fishy about all of this. Who are they codding? Maybe they need to be put in their plaice
